Think it was because she's always been this lonely woman who held a lot of responsibilities, and burdened by the thought of revenge and saddled with a lecherous old man who wants her, then suddenly she manages to find a master who is in every way superior in refining pills, and can potentially save not only her friend's life Chief Tang but also her, and he does prevent her from losing her body to that lecherous old man. So in many ways she is out of characteristic like you mentioned but also I guess the sense of relief that she has someone to rely on, and treats him like a grandfather, though from the animation it looks like flirting. But we all know this is her acting subconsciously since I think in the novel she felt very close to Tan Yun even when he is in disguise

First whole season was satirical humor and constant saliva drops over how his future wife looks good each time he met one. Even novel until 40-50% hasn't got a trace of Yaoi and then after the drop into abyss whole thing gets completely fscked up.
